Island ist ja momentan in aller Munde. Dieser rote Briefkasten hängt in Reykjavik, der Hauptstadt dieses kleinen Landes, mitten in der Innenstadt, gegenüber vom Parlament. Als ich ihn fotografierte, im Januar 2009, waren gerade fast alle Banken des Landes zusammengebrochen, viele Isländer hatten viel Geld verloren und die Insel steckte in einer tiefen Krise. Man darf davon ausgehen, dass zu dieser Zeit nicht allzuviele nette oder erfreuliche Briefe ihren Weg in diesen Briefkasten fanden.

Everybody is talking about Iceland these days, mostly for good reasons. This red letterbox hangs in the city centre of Reykjavik, the capital of this small country, right opposite the parliament. At the time this picture was taken, in January 2009, most of the country´s banks had collapsed, many Icelanders lost lots of money and the island was in a deep crisis. It is not hard to imagine that not too many friendly or pleasant letters were put into this box at that time….
